Clyde Marine Training and fellow Clyde Group staff, as well as some special guests, joined together on Thursday 21st December to bid farewell to Clyde Group Managing Director Joyce Downie who officially retires on the 31st December, 2017 after over 30 years of service.

Commenting on her departure, Joyce stated: “When I joined The Clyde Group in February 1987, I could never have imagined the journey I was about to embark upon.

“I was given many opportunities to develop as the companies grew and expanded, and for that I am eternally grateful. Having secured several positions over the years, I was immensely proud to be appointed a Director of Clyde Marine Training in 2001 and play a key role in the development of thousands of cadets as they progressed to become Merchant Navy Officers. Following this I became Managing Director of The Clyde Group in 2006.

“As all of you can probably testify, in any job there are ups and downs, but I can say hand on heart that the negatives pale into insignificance compared to the positives. I will cherish the lifelong friendships I have made both with colleagues, but also those in the wider business world, and the memories we have created over the years.

“In Colin McMurray, Paul Cronje, Kathy McBride and Peter Fee, I leave behind a Management Team of the highest order, and I have been proud to play a small part in their own development.

“Acknowledging the overwhelming blessings the last 30 years have brought to me, can I say a huge thank you to the many colleagues who have helped me along the way, with your mixture of endeavour, passion and desire to do better each and every day. I will miss you all, but hope our paths will still cross in the future.”
